Teaching for me is very much like genuine friendship in many ways. First of all, most important element in effective teacher-student relationship is trust as much as in friendship. A good teacher is capable of making her student feel in the safe hands of a very good friend. This is evident in various ways; most important among all is the student's perception of the teacher clearly and convincingly taking his/her side even while administering actions undesirable by the student. A good teacher is fun to have around just how good friends are. A good teacher helps her students see the big picture and value the importance of the subject, while supporting students' progress to get there. Finally, genuinely cares for student's interest beyond the limitations of the formal teaching assignment.
I believe that effective learning takes place upon the success of the teacher in convincing her students of her true respect, and building credibility as early as possible in the learning experience. Teacher credibility stems mainly from evident knowledge of subject matter as well as Pedagogical content knowledge. Providing meaningful context and satisfying student's curios questions with strategies that best suits the nature of the subject at hand are the best evidences of the teacher credibility. I also believe that a good teacher enjoys excellent communication, negotiation, and people skills.
I value students' classroom involvement and various learning styles, which guides my entire lesson preparation efforts. My aim is always to prepare enough activities to keep students engaged during the class time, as well as create independent learning opportunities for the students to further peruse the topic with their own learning style and through their own life experiences.
